Sehr richtig (ethisch wie pragmatisch-strategisch) fordert FoA Abschaffung statt Reform, also Tierrechte statt halbherzigem, kontraproduktivem vermeintlichem Tier"schutz", "humaner" Tötung usw.

Abolition, Not Reform
During the last several months, one group professing to advocate animal
rights activism -- has been promoting McDonald's. Now this organization is
giving the nod to Burger King's new endorsement of "humane standards" for
animal slaughter. Not surprisingly, another animal welfare association has
jumped on board to laud the fast food establishment's reform measures.
Meanwhile, a coalition of groups is busy advocating a "reform" initiative in
Florida to make the farming of pigs more "humane" before they are
slaughtered.
Friends of Animals believes such campaigns are destructive and do
nothing to help animals. Furthermore, they send a confusing and garbled
message to the American public, leading consumers to believe that
meat-production can be made "humane."
Clearly, more and more organizations in our "movement" are jumping on
board the "humane meat" campaign. It doesn't threaten business; it doesn't threaten the CEO's of these animal welfarist groups; it doesn't threaten the media, which gives it big coverage. Problem is: it doesn't HELP animals.
It is time for all of us who care about animals to accept one clear and
simple fact. There is no such thing as humane animal agriculture. The life
of a "farmed" animal is hell from the moment of birth to the moment of
slaughter. The improvements that are being pushed by such welfare-oriented
animal groups will do nothing to prevent animal suffering, or advance the
goal of animal rights.
The message of the animal rights community should be loud and clear.
There is no such thing as humane meat production. There are no reforms that
will make patronizing McDonald's, Burger King or other fast-food chains
acceptable. We should urge consumers to stop eating meat and animal
products. We should urge them to stop going to McDonald's and Burger King,
and we should let them know why they are undeserving of commercial support.
In this new millennium, when it is well-known that animal agriculture is
not only unnecessary and immoral, but also unhealthy and environmentally
destructive, why can't we unite in one clear and unified effort to keep
animals out of slaughterhouses and abolish, not reform, factory farms and
other institutionalized exploitation of animals?
Friends of Animals calls on all animal advocacy groups to revisit their
current campaigns and restructure them where necessary. Anything less is
just pandering to animal agriculture interests.
